Otis Holt

Otis Wilson Holt, 92, of Statesville, passed away, Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Holt was born December 21, 1921 in Harnett County, NC and was the son of the late Ernest Caswell Holt and Alice Monroe Holt. Otis's mother passed away when he was a young boy and his father remarried the late Christian Godfrey Holt, who helped raise him. He graduated from Harnett County schools and served in the US Army for six years during WWII. On January 5, 1946, he was married to the late Edith Carlene Shoemaker Holt, who passed away on April 23, 2009. Mr. Holt was the oldest living member of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church, where he held several leadership positions and was retired from Hunt Manufacturing Inc. after 26 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 65 and loved farming, his garden, camping and fishing. He is survived by one son, Ron Holt (Sheila) of Salisbury, one daughter, Wanda H. Blevins (Marty) of Statesville, four grandchildren, Darren Holt (Kerri), Lisa Elledge (David), Amanda Staton (Tommy), Krystle Blevins, four great grandchildren, Hailey Holt, Courtney Elledge, Kaitlin and Kolyn Staton, along with four brothers, Jerry, Johnny, Bill and Jimmy Holt and one sister, Joyce Patterson along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Herman, E.C, Boyd, Doris, and Jean Gray Holt and Elizabeth Harp, and one great granddaughter, Angel Hope Holt. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Lepley and Rev. Lynne Lepley officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors and the family will visit with friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church or to the Gordon Hospice House. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Otis Holt.
