Mr. Obern Larry Fox, 71, of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Jurney's Assisted Living following three years of declining health. Mr. Fox was born in Iredell County on November 22, 1944, at was the son of the late Obern Lee Fox and Ila Mae Sprinkle Fox. He was a graduate of Central School and he attended Catawba County Technical College. On March 8, 1970, he married Nelda Shore Fox, formerly of Yadkinville, who survives. Mr. Fox was a member of Ham's Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, church treasurer and a song leader, all for many years. He was employed with Mill's Electronics for 20 years and then with Statesville Auto Supply for 20 years as an instore parts salesman until his retirement. He was also a member of the Ebenezer Ruritan Club, which he helped to organize in the 1980's. Larry enjoyed spending time at his church and with his family. He also enjoyed gospel singing, reading, golf, cooking for church events, watching TV and time at the beach with his family and friends. Before his health failed, he and Nelda enjoyed visiting the sick and elderly. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fox was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Fox Sullivan and her husband Paul and Glenda Mae Fox along with a nephew, Dr. Kerry P. Sullivan. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nelda Fox and a son, Kevin Larry Fox, both of the home, a sister, Nelda Fox Millsaps (Kirt) of Statesville, three nephews, Kent Millsaps (Melody) of Monroe, NC, Brent Millsaps (Lisa) of Statesville, and Dr. Brad Shore of Texas. He is also survived by a great-nephew, Tristan Millsaps of Statesville and a brother-in-law, Leon Shore (Gayle) of Yadkinville. The family will visit with friends Friday, September 30, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 at Nicholson Funeral Home. Funeral services for Larry Fox will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Ham's Grove Baptist Church with Pastors James Bumgarner, Gene Shumaker, and David T. Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ham's Grove Baptist Church, 202 Ham's Grove Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
