Nina Wilson

Nina Mae Wilson, 89, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Ms. Wilson was born December 30, 1921 in Caldwell County and was the daughter of the late Henry Wesley Wilson and Maude Hass Wilson. Ms. Wilson was a graduate of Scotts High School, Mitchell College, and Appalachian State University where she received her degree in childhood education. She was retired from the State of North Carolina where she worked as a teacher for Guilford, Cabarrus, Iredell/Statesville School System (Monticello Elementary). Ms. Wilson loved to make quilts and she graciously gave them to her close relatives. She also made many ceramic pieces and painted them beautifully. She had a doll collection and made many of their clothes. Ms. Wilson loved, attended and supported Trinity United Methodist Church as long as her health would allow. In addition to her parents, Ms. Wilson was also preceded in death by a sister, Edith E. Wilson; four double first cousins, Byron Hass, Opal Hass Moore, Margaret Hass Williams, and L.B. Hass, Jr. along with a double second cousin, Steven Lee Hass. Ms. Wilson is survived by two first counsins-in-law, Ruby Hass and Martha Hass, both of Statesville along with nine double second cousins, Karen Campbell (Roy) and Laura Jean Goodson (Hollis), both of Statesville, Lanny Hass (Sabrina) of Raleigh, N.C., Joyce Hobbs (Randy), Kathy Bunton (Bobby), both of Statesville, Earl Moore (Bonnie) of Salisbury, Ron Hass of Raleigh, N.C., Vickie Hedrick (Howard) and Peggy Creedmore (Norman), both of Statesville. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Trinity UMC Cemetery with Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. The family will visit with friends following the services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
