Nicholina Mccurdy

Nicholina Teresa Povich McCurdy, 95, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Autumn Care of Statesville. Mrs. McCurdy was born May 6, 1916 in Camden, NJ and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gruich Povich. She attended Camden, NJ schools and as a young woman, she owned her own beauty shop in Camden, NJ. She was married to the late Thomas Vincent McCurdy and was a very active member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Her family became the center of her life along with her church. Mrs. McCurdy is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann M. McCommons (Bob) of Statesville, two sons, Thomas McCurdy (Judy) of Liberty, NC, Daniel J. McCurdy of Boca Rotan, FL; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy, Tony and Pete Povich and one grandson, Vince McCurdy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Father Kurt Fohn officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 at the church.
