Nell Ruth Williams Loftin, 99 of Statesville, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Brookdale
Peachtree.
She was born in Surry County on May 26, 1924, to the late Wily Everet Williams and Mary
Emma Weisner Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Edwin Loftin,
a son, Dennis Laughton, a daughter, Sheila Ann Gregory, three brothers and three sisters.
Nell loved to sew, paint landscapes and florals, do crafts, and working the crossword puzzles in
the Record and Landmark. In earlier years she and her husband enjoyed camping. She loved
playing Yahtzee and was an avid Atlanta Braves and ACC basketball fan.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Jill Halek, Jacque Bailey (David), a
daughter-in-law, Pat Pieper (Corey), grandchildren, Michelle Laughton, Deanna Geroux (Rich),
Nikki Bailey (Jamey Finney), Justin Johnson, Michelle Sevier (John Matheny), Heather Price,
Gina Johnston (David Houts), Mary Helen Glass (Alex), Joann Scott (Gordon), John Bailey
(Laura), great-grandchildren, Ty Johnson, Jonathan and Caroline Sevier, Seth, Brandon, Alicia
(Tyler Chandler) Price, Holden and Grady Houts, Ian and Cooper Glass, Addison and Forrest
Scott, Natasha Bailey, great-great-grandchildren, Lana Price, Kaslyn, Willow and Gabriel
Chandler, and a special friend that was like a son, Lonnie Deal.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Nicholson Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Scott Eanes and Rev. Paul Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell
Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm at the funeral
home prior to the service.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Peachtree, especially
Brittany, Bonnie, and Amy, and to Nell’s hospice nurse, Patty.
