Nancy Morrison

April 21, 1926 — December 5, 2013

Mrs. Nancy Muriel Guy Morrison, 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2013, 13 years to the day since her husband, K.D. had passed on before her in 2000. Nancy was born on April 21, 1926 in Rocky Mount, NC, the daughter of the late Hugh King and Ruth Hatchett Guy. She was raised on her family's farm in Iredell County and attended Monticello and Scotts High School class of 1945. It was on that Bethany Township family farm that Nancy developed her unconditional love for animals that defined her kind, generous, compassionate and gentle soul. Nancy went with K.D. to Washington DC and they married there on July 14, 1946. A year later in August 1947, their only son, Daniel Ray, was born. In 1953, Nancy began a 27 year career with the Telephone Company, C&P, Bell Atlantic, and later Verizon, until her retirement in 1980, when she and K.D. would move back to Iredell County to a location just down the road from her family farm. Here they would enjoy 20 years of the 54 years together, as well as become active members of the Front Street Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, K.D., Nancy was also preceded in death by her brother, Andrew White. Nancy is survived by her only son, Daniel Ray Morrison of the home, a brother, Larry White (Marilyn) of Jeffersonville, IN; three cousins, Paul Hatchett, JR (Katie), Norma Link, and Patrick Link, all of Statesville; a niece, Sandra Harrison (Ron) of Statesville and a nephew, Mark Waugh of Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by a number of close friends, Louise Huston, Brenda Howell, Betty Minton, Judy Milstead (Don), Gary Moore (Cherrie), Ray Moore, Wayne Nicholson, Jim Godfrey, Dawn Hall (Alan) and Larry Watts (Lou Ann), all of Statesville. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Nancy Morrison will be conducted 2:30 pm Sunday, December 8, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Otis Johnson, Rev. Ralph Lepley, and Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:30 until 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iredell County Animal Shelter, 430 Bristol Dr, Statesville, NC 28677.
