Nancy Comer Mayfield

Mrs. Nancy Comer Mayfield,74, of Statesville, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Born in Yadkin County on August 28, 1942, she was a daughter of the late W.A. Comer and Ruby Chappell Comer. On September 10, 1967, she married Mr. Thomas M. Mayfield, Jr. who died in March of 2002. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Nancy graduated from Courtney High School and worked in the Cabarrus County Schools in the cafeteria and drove a school bus before retiring after 27 years of service. She was also a volunteer for 12 years for the Harrisburg Fire & Rescue Squad. Prior to moving to Statesville, she was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church where she served as the choir director and a Sunday school teacher. After moving to Statesville, she joined Broad Street United Methodist Church where she kept the nursery and worked at the church pre-school. Survivors include a son, Chris Mayfield (Jennifer) of Cabarrus County, daughters, Patricia M Plyler (Jay) of Statesville and Terrell M. Daigle (Bernie) of Eunice, Louisiana. Also surviving are grandchildren: Breanna Mayfield, Dylan Mayfield, Elizabeth Plyler, Rebecca Plyler, Heather Daigle Fontenot (Jamie), Lauren Daigle Schoeffler (Matthew), and Paige Daigle Spears (Shem) along with a brother, Junior Comer and a sister, Ollie C. Myers both of Yadkinville. Also surviving are 2 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2016 at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisburg Baptist Church Cemetery at Harrisburg, N.C. at 3:00 P.M. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service at the Broad Street United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be: Chris Mayfield, Jay Plyler, Elmer Hunt, Paul Hunt, Clifford Earl and Jimmy Bartley. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
