Myrtle Miller

November 18, 1909 — March 5, 2011

Mrs. Annie Myrtle Benfield Miller, 101, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Miller was born November 18, 1909 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Jacob Henry Benfield and Sally Katherine Pope Benfield. She was a graduate of Sharon School and in 1934 she was married to the late Aaron Edward Miller, who died in 1978. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a farmer, homemaker and worked in textiles. She was an excellent sewer, quilter, cooker and enjoyed working in her yard and garden. Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons, J.D. Benfield (Sue) of Statesville, Bobby L. Miller of Harmony, one daughter, Mona M. Elder (Jim) of Statesville, five grandchildren, Cindy Duncan (Julian Stevenson), Gene Stout, Donna Maness (Steve), Tammy Macy (Bryan), Susan Edwards (Tim), seven great grandchildren including Stephanie Fraley, six great great grandchildren, two sisters, Alma B. Bost of Statesville, Cleo B. Miller of Statesville, two brothers, Ross Benfield of Catawba, Glenn Benfield of Statesville and a large number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Sue Moore Benfield, one grandson-in-law, Mark Duncan, one grandson, Thomas Allen Benfield, two brothers, Ralph and Dewey Benfield and two sisters, Nona and Irene Morrow. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Bame officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family will receive friends on Friday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service in the Iredell Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Eric Fraley, Julian Stevenson, Mike Benfield, Bryan Macy, Dent Miller and Randy Feimster. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625 or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1950 Salisbury Hwy., Statesville, NC 28677.
