Mr. Richard E. Stewart, 58, of Statesville, died Friday, April 5, 2019 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Born in Iredell County on February 5, 1961, he was a son of the late Paul Thomas Stewart and Shirley Byers Stewart who survives. He attended New Bethany Baptist Church and was a 1979 graduate of West Iredell High School. He enjoyed walking, cooking and canning, caring for his mother and travelling. He was retired from the furniture manufacturing industry.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Paula Gunter (Dwight) of Statesville, nieces: Dawn Gunter Windon and Felicity Voorheis (Raymond) all of Statesville. Also surviving are great nephews: Chance, Gregory, R.T. and J and a great great niece, Mason Gunter all of Statesville. Additional survivors include an aunt, Beatrice B. Taylor (Larry) and their daughter and her family, Wendy Taylor Gregory (Doug) and their son, Taylor. Also surviving are several special great aunts.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at New Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will then greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
