Minnie Laura Cashion

Minnie Laura Brown Cashion, 101, passed peacefully on March 26, 2017. She was known to all simply as Minnie or Minnie Laura. Born March 11, 1916 in Mooresville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Walter D. Brown and Johnsie Duckworth. Minnie was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College (ASU), Boone, NC. Her most enjoyable career was as a teacher, and substitute teacher, for many years in the Mooresville City School System. Long past retirement, Minnie fondly remembered countless classroom moments, and the children by name. Minnie was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, Mooresville, NC. She served for many years as Church Historian, Circle Member, and in the Church Library. Outside of family, Minnie's favorite memories were of researching and participating in the history, and the life and growth of the Church. She relished the abundant friendships made that endured for decades. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, James E. Cashion, Sr.; her brothers Harry Brown and Kenneth Brown. Minnie is survived by her sons Jim Cashion, Jr., and wife Phyllis of Greenville, SC, and Bob Cashion, and wife Robin of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandchildren: Laura C. Fuller, James E. Cashion, III, Catherine C. Tabor, Julie L. Cashion, and Erika R. Cashion; great grandchildren: Rachael, Kaitlin, Miles, Brett, Molly, Ryan and Hayes. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2017, in the Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville, NC, with the Rev. Randy Sherrill officiating. The family will speak with friends following the service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Library Fund, 214 N. Academy St., Mooresville, NC, 28115. In a note: Minnie wrote in 1999 she expressed a simple message for us to remember: "Enjoy your blessings, and learn to laugh more, because laughing has a healing affect. Go and experience as much as you can, while you can. There will come a time when you can't, but you will always have the memories." Minnie always wanted to come home, and now she has.
