Michael Todd Carter, 55, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
Todd was born in Iredell County on October 24, 1963 and was the son of Sue Jolly Carter and the late Herbert. He was a graduate of West Iredell High School and served his country with honor and great pride in the U.S. Marine Corp.
Todd was employed with Kewaunee Scientific where he worked as a welder. He was a member of Cochran Street Bible Church and served as a Sunday School Director.
Todd was an avid baseball player all throughout his school years. He was a very talented left-handed pitcher and he held the record at West Iredell High School for the lowest ERA long after he graduated. His love for baseball carried over to his time in the marine corps and he played while stationed in Japan. He was awarded the MVP of the league during that time. Not only was he an avid baseball player but he was also a UNC Tarheel, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves fan. Todd loved his family dearly and his death leaves an enormous void which cannot be filled.
Along with his mother, Todd is survived by one brother, Tony Carter of Statesville and two sisters, Robin Barker (Mike) of Landrum, SC and Tonda Trent (Smith) of Statesville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services honoring the life of Todd Carter will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, Feb. 7 at Cochran Street Bible Church with Pastor Roscoe Lilly and Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at the church.
