Maxine was born in Cool Springs to Mack and Mary Williams on April 1, 1936.  She attended Cool Springs High School before attending Appalachian State University where she received her Bachelor of Education degree. She finished college in three years and then married her high school sweetheart, Charles Ledbetter Bunch, Jr. on December 22, 1956.  She loved his large, close-knit family and quickly became a much-loved sister-in-law to his seven siblings.

Maxine taught school until her first child was born and then became a homemaker for a short time before she began running the office for her husband’s textile businesses.  Although she loved playing tennis and was a strong bridge player, she always put the needs of her family first.  She will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who never complained and had a quiet strength about her.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Mary Williams, her husband Charles, and her sister, JoAnn Barringer. She is survived by her son, Brian Bunch (Jenny), and daughter, Kathy Clontz Hollowell (Rick), and grandchildren, Laura Bunch, Emily Bunch, Nick Clontz, William Clontz, step-grandson, Scott Hollowell, her brother, Dick Williams, along with many nieces and nephews.

Maxine will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

The family of Maxine Bunch wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful caregivers who were with her during her long battle with Parkinson’s and also the doctors and nurses who attended to her at Iredell Memorial Hospital and the Gordon Hospice House.

Memorials may be given to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 W. Broad St., Statesville, NC 28677 and to the Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC  28625.
