Mavis Frances High

Mrs. Mavis Frances Jones High, 85, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House.



Mrs. High was born in Gaston County on April 5, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Elmer Jones and Daisy Groves Jones. She was a graduate of Gastonia High School. On November 4, 1951 she married Alvin W. High and together they shared 56 years of marriage until his death on November 7, 2007.



She was employed with N L Fastners, Inc. where she worked in Sales. She served as a volunteer with the Board of Elections and the PTA while her children attended school.



Mavis' passion was her service to her Lord. She was a member of Front Street Baptist Church. Mavis was a member of the Women's Mission United at Front Street and served as a Sunday school teacher for 58 years with various churches and most recently the Esther Perry Sunday school class. She was a member of the Senior Choir, the Joyful Singers, and the Young at Heart. Another area that Mavis served was she enjoyed cooking on Wednesday evening for the church family and helped when other church families experienced the loss of a loved one by cooking and serving meals. Mavis had a servant's heart and she will be greatly missed by family and friends.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Jones and Bob Jones, and one sister, Doris Carrigan.



Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Alison Kay (Russell) of Statesville and Susan H. Wilson (Jim) of Harmony and one son, Keith High of Statesville. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Christina Garnett, Ashley Stevenson and Philip Kay.



Funeral services honoring the life of Mavis High will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2018 in the Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
