Mary Ruth Godfrey

Mary Ruth Godfrey, 89, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Iredell County on September 10, 1929 to the late Marshall Lee Godfrey and Carrie Belle Hartness Godfrey.



Mary Ruth was a graduate of Mitchell College and Meredith College. She was a retired teacher and coach who had spent most of her career at Troutman and South Iredell High School. She touched many lives and inspired many students. Mary Ruth was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church where she was a former Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Trustee. She was a dear lady who will be missed by all who knew her.



Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.



Left to cherish her memory are her life long friend, Rosemary Rector of Troutman; Sister-in-law Barbara Godfrey of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews



A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. David Comer, Rev. Dr. Gary West, and Rev. Dr. Steve Shoemaker officiating.
