Mary Lucile "Lucy" Brown

April 9, 1940 — October 13, 2018

Lucy Reid Brown, a native of Statesville, NC died on October 13, 2018 in Durham, NC after a lengthy illness. Ms. Brown is survived by her daughter, Amy Leigh Burris, of Durham, three sisters, Sally Garrett of Alexandria, VA, Rebecca Kilpatrick and Rachel Josey of Statesville, and by one brother, Alan Reid, also of Statesville.

Along with her parents, Hubert and Weddie Reid, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth and her brothers, Michael and Charles Reid.

Lucy was a well-loved member of her community, particularly through her devoted participation in the church. She served as a Sunday school teacher as early as her teenage years at South River Baptist Church and continued to teach later on as a member at Diamond Hill Baptist Church. Even after transitioning to assisted living, Lucy continued to plan and teach a bible study for fellow residents. She maintained this teaching role until a stroke in 2010 precipitated a decline in her health.

Lucy will also be well remembered by her devoted friends and classmates of Scotts High School. In her class superlatives, Lucy was voted "most dependable." She certainly was a devoted mother, sister, friend, and a woman of deep faith.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday October 18th at Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Holleman officiating. A private family burial will follow at a later date. The family will visit with friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Wake Forest University School of Divinity, Box 7227, Winston-Salem NC 27109. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com, and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
