Mary Louise Platt

Mary Louise Johnson Platt, 90, of Statesville, passed away Mon., August 14, 2017, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born July 13, 1927, of the Catholic faith, she retired as a spinner from Templon Mills in Mooresville after 20 years. Mary was the daughter of the late Miles Ralph and Bertha Ellen Martin Johnson. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Joe Harvey Johnson, Bobby Lewis Johnson and John Thomas Johnson; and two sisters, Sarah Johnson Harwell Dishman, and Margaret Jane Johnson Menscer. In addition to her siblings, she was preceded in death by four of her beloved children who were gone too soon: a son, Kenneth Harvey Platt; and three daughters, Winifred (Winnie) Platt Bell, Felicia (Pete) Platt Schmaltz and Myra Lee Harbin. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Thomas Henry Platt Sr. Mary is survived by two sons; Thomas Henry and Barbara Platt Jr., of Conover, and Jeffrey James and Bobbie Platt of Morganton. She was blessed to be surrounded by her 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Mary was the head of our family, the link that held us together. Her smile, laughter and wisdom blessed those who spent time with her. While our hearts are broken, she is now an angel with the Lord looking down upon us. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 16, at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., August 17, at Iredell Memorial Gardens in Statesville.
