Mary Helen Matheson

Mary Helen Bass Matheson, 80, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at her home. She was born July 25, 1932 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Thomas L. Bass and L. Janie Pope Bass. She was a dedicated wife and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake especially for her grandkids. She was a member of Fern Hill Baptist Church and was very devoted until her sickness but she continued to read her Bible every day. She was also devoted to her job at Gillian Furniture Company then it went to Thomasville Furniture Company where just about everyone called her mama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Matheson, two daughters, Kathy L. Matheson and Deborah L. Matheson and also two brothers, Charles Lee Bass and Harold F. Bass. Mary is survived by two children, Michael K. Matheson (Judy) and Karen K. Shoemaker. She also has three grandchildren, Angela M. Matheson, Michele Matheson and Tara N. Shoemaker (Thomas Cleary) ; three great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kristen and Ryan Bullin and Bentley H. Cleary along with one great-great-grandchild Isaiah L. Dagenhart. Extended family and friends also survive. Funeral services for Mary will be conducted 10:00 am Friday, July 19, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Jessie Stroud and Rev. J.C. Parks officiating. the family will visit with friends from 9:00 until 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
