Mary Frances Fanjoy

Mary Frances Allen Fanjoy, of Statesville, died Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Statesville on December 6, 1930, she was a daughter of the late William Henry Allen and Virginia Steele Allen. On December 29, 1953, she married Thomas Alison Fanjoy to whom she was married for 61 years. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Raleigh in 1949 and UNC Chapel Hill in 1953. She was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Frances was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and the Vestry. She was a member of The Colonial Dames and served on the YMCA Board, the Iredell Arts & Science Museums Board, the B B & T Bank Board and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels as well as serving on the Morehead Scholarship Committee. She was a United Way Benefactor Award Honoree and was a tutor at Avery Sherrill School for a number of years. She was appointed by Gov. Jim Martin to the North Carolina Museum Of History Board. She loved to gather her family and was a hostess extradinare. Survivors include her husband, Thomas A. Fanjoy of the home, her children: Laura Fanjoy Daughtrey (Bill) of Houston, Texas, William A. Fanjoy (Susan), and Mary Fanjoy Armistead, all of Statesville and her 9 grandchildren: Laura, Will, Meg, Henry, Alison, Fran, Thomas, Jim and Mary Chandler. Services celebrating Frances' life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. today (Saturday) at Trinity Episcopal Church with The Rev. Brad Mullis officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church parish hall. Private burial will precede the service at Oakwood Cemetery.
