Mary Burton

Mrs. Mary Caskaddon Burton, 67, of Statesville, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Burton was born in Iredell County on February 27, 1948, and was the daughter of the late Roy Caskaddon and Dorothy Poole Jenkins. She was a graduate of Iredell County schools and was married to Jerry Burton, who preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Burton was retired from the oil refineries in Texas where she worked in construction. Mrs. Burton was the first woman to work construction in Iredell County and worked on the housing authority project for the City of Statesville. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Caskaddon. Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Darlene "Darby" Johnson of Statesville and a sister, Effie Eldridge (Gene) of Statesville along with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will visit with friends Saturday afternoon August 29, 2015, from 3:00 until 6:00 pm at the home of her sister, Effie Eldridge, 164 Whisper Pine Road, Statesville, NC. A memorial service will be conducted 5:00 pm Sunday, September 13, 2015, with Revs. Barbara Bunton and Josh Bunton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
