Mary Alice Young

Mary Alice McLaughlin Young 76, passed away on January 13, 2014, at Longleaf Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, Wilson, NC, following a lengthy illness. Born in Statesville on August 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Frank R. McLaughlin, Sr. and Eleanor Tomlin McLaughlin. Mary Alice graduated from Statesville High School in 1955. She attended Mitchell Community College and Cooper Union Art Institute in New York City. She traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Mary Alice is survived by a brother, Frank R. McLaughlin, Jr. of Statesville and one sister, Eleanor "Nell" McLaughlin Montgomery of Salisbury, NC. Also surviving is niece, Debra M. Burch of Charlotte and nephews Andy McLaughlin (Melinda), Christopher Montgomery (Patti), and Matthew Montgomery (Rachelle). A visitation will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 18, 2014, at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
