Marie Mills

Marie Reid Mills, 89, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Mills was born August 8, 1921 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Arthur R. Reid and Sally Holland Reid. She was a graduate of Iredell County Schools and on July 13, 1943 she was married for 66 years to the late Ben Ray Mills, who died on August 16, 2009. She was a member of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School. She retired after 29 years from Woolworths where she was a merchandise and sales coordinator. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma Reid Fox, Jettie Reid Lee and Lena Reid Allison, along with two brothers, Forest Umphry Reid and Clay Holland Reid. Mrs. Reid is survived by one son, Harold Gene Mills and wife, Twylla Miles Mills of Carolina Beach, NC, two daughters, Donna Mills Ellen and husband, Joseph Leon Ellen of Sanford, NC, Jill Mills Lapish and husband, Allen Lee Lapish of Statesville. Her grandchildren are Anne-Marie Mills, Joshua Lee Ellen, Hannah Ellen Anderson and husband, Jason Anderson, Gregory Lee Lapish and Leigh Anne Lapish Satterwhite and husband, Adam Jason Satterwhite. She is also survived by her great granddaughters, Scarlett Victoria Ellen, Lula Rae Watson and Sarah Christine Lapish. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Lepley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tim Reid, Kent Waugh, Tim Mills, Dean Mills, Gary Fox, Tommy Fox and Michael Reid. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
