Marian Stahl Morgan, 88, of Statesville, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at Jurney's of Statesville. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1930 to the late Frederick William and Anna Oberdorf Stahl.
Marian was the first wife of Richard Lyon Morgan and was the mother of Richard William Morgan of High Point, NC and Randolph Walter Morgan of Yorba Linda, California. Her careers were with Bell of PA and C & P Telephone Co. of Virginia. After rearing her children, she graduated from CPCC in a medical program, worked in Charlotte for a while, then became a private duty caregiver and was Iredell County's resident Field Rep. for the U.S. Census Bureau. She was a long-time member of Broad Street United Methodist Church and an associate member of Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Church. She later joined Western Avenue Baptist Church with her best friend, Rudy Jones.
Marian was a long-time resident of Statesville and very active in the community. Past memberships include: in addition to memberships in Philadelphia churches, she was a member of the Holiday Chorus of Philadelphia; Retirees Prayer Fellowship, Elizabethtown, PA; Wives Club of Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Virginia; Homemakers Club, Moorefield, West Virginia; Charter member of the YMCA of Statesville; began and operated Intercessory Prayer Chain at Broad Street UMC; long-time secretary of the Statesville-Iredell Community Concert Association; on Board of NC Symphony; began and operated Statesville's Meals On Wheels Program in the early 70's; member COA's Senior Serenaders; for many years President of the East Broad N.I.C.W. under the Statesville Police Department; Vice-Chair of Statesville Human Relations Commission; and first Chairperson of Court Watchers in Statesville.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Richard William Morgan (Cindy) and Randolph Walter Morgan (Deborah), and her grandchildren, Daniel (Mariah), Christopher (Jessica), Kaitlyn, Thomas, Patrick (Abby), and Ben.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends following the service.
