Margie Eliassen

Marjorie Ritch Purdy Eliassen, 88, of Statesville, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Maple Leaf Healthcare. Mrs. Eliassen was born in Ossining, NY on August 29, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Edwin Purdy and Almeda Cottington Purdy. She attended school in New York and on September 20, 1952, she married Oistein W. "Stan" Eliassen, who survives. She was a member of Wesley Memorial UMC and while her health allowed, she sang in the choir. Although Statesville was her home, Margie loved to spend time in Marlboro, MA as well as Newburyport, MA. She was an avid bowler and a former member of the Baltimore City Orchestra. Earlier in her life she was a Girl Scout leader. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Eliassen is survived by two daughters, Kim Mulrey (Steve) of Statesville and Jan Racca (Tom) of Northboro, MA along with two grandsons, David and Brian Racca, both of Northboro, MA. A memorial service to honor the life of Margie Eliassen will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Wesley Memorial UMC with Rev. Danny Leonard and Rev. Gervase Hitch officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be given to Wesley Memorial UMC Chancel Choir, 825 Wesley Drive, Statesville, NC 28677.
