Jackie White Obituary "Jackie" Margaret Jacqueline Powers White, of Statesville, NC, died peacefully Monday, November 27, 2017 at the age of 73 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. Jackie was born July 20, 1944 in Wilmington, N.C. and grew up in Charlotte, the oldest daughter of Nancy P. Price and Grady E. Powers. Jackie grew up in Charlotte, NC, then attended Appalachian State University where she earned a teaching degree. She married Thomas James White from Lenoir, NC, who proceeded her death in 2012. They settled in Statesville in 1974, where Jackie dedicated over 30 years to the Iredell Statesville School System as a librarian/media specialist. The majority of her career was served at Harmony Elementary School, where she shared her love of books with kids. Jackie was an avid reader and known to have read every new book before adding it to the school library collection. Jackie enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She volunteered at the local farmers market and was a member of the AAUW. She was an active member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church and Wesley Memorial Church until her illness prevented her from attending. Family and her role as wife, mother and grandmother was always Jackie's priority. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Jackie is survived by her two children, Michael J. White (wife Karen) from Mt. Holly; Melinda W. Manning from Statesville; two grandchildren, J. Logan Manning and Lindsey L. Manning from Statesville; her brother, Leon Powers (wife Diane); her sister, Linda Preston (husband John); as well as many other in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to thank all of those that cared for Jackie during her lengthy illness. A memorial service celebrating Jackie's life will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, December 3, 3pm. They will greet friends immediately following the service. Burial will be private at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsnfunerals.com.
