Margaret Ann Ashley

April 11, 1941 — February 17, 2014

Margaret Ann Gregory Ashley, 72, of Statesville, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Iredell County on April, 11, 1941 to the late Arthur Glenn Gregory and Della Mae Goble Gregory. Margaret was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School and married Dean Smith Ashley on December 24, 1958. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 16, 2010. She worked in textiles most of her life, having worked at Sportknit, Bryan Mills, Troutman Shirt, and Beauty Maid Mills before retiring. She later worked with her daughter, Debbie, at Moores Buds and Bows for 13 years. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Gayle Moore, and two brothers, Billy Ray Gregory and Glenn Arthur Gregory. Mrs. Ashley is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Ashley (Mark Keaton) of Statesville; five sisters, Wanda Sue Potts (Larry) of Statesville, Shirley Mae Shaver of Statesville, Mary Marie Houston (Ray Robinson) of Statesville, Betty Lee Lippard of Easley, SC, and Alva Jean Parker (J.D.) of Hickory; two brothers, Jimmy Neil Gregory (Faye) of Stony Point, and Espy Paul Gregory (Thelma) of Statesville; and three granddaughters, Christie DeAnne Case, Melissa Dawn Case, and Dedra Adelle Moore Chapman (Daniel). She is further survived by her great grandchildren Bryson Layne Chapman, Austin Ryan Chapman, Erika Yuvone Douglas, Ashley RayAnne Gillie, Tiffanie Lauren Nichols, and Payton Gayle Chapman; and 21 nieces and nephews, who always had a special place in her heart. Funeral service for Mrs. Ashley will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Beau Mills and Rev. J.C. Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening, February 21, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be assembled at the home of Margaret Ashley.
