Mabel White

Mrs. Mabel Watson White, 93, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Maple Leaf Healthcare. Mrs. White was born in Ashe County, NC on August 4, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Bob Watson and Margaret Faw White. She was a graduate of Ashe County schools and on February 2, 1946, she married William Arch White, who preceded her in death, and became the step-mother of his children. Mrs. White was employed formerly employed with Eifreds Dept Store in Statesville for 25 years and also Buck Knitting Textiles and Brenton Textiles until her retirement. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in West Jefferson, NC where she taught Sunday school class but last attended Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of the Jolly 60's group. In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was also preceded in death by three children, William Neil White, James Marvin White and Mary B. White McClean along with three grandchildren, Claudia White, Mark White, and Gregg McClean. Mrs. White is survived by one son, Claude Henderson White and wife Evelyn of Wilmington, DE., and two daughter-in-laws, Diane White Wilkins and Lena White, both of Statesville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Keith White and wife Mary of Greenville, NC, Michael McClean, Theresa McClean Parsons, and Lisa Sherrill Gannon and husband Terry along with three great-grandchildren, Maddie and Jake Gannon, all of California and Brian White of Statesville. Funeral services for Mrs. White will be conducted 2:30 pm Monday, January 27, 2014 in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Dr. Jeff Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Marvin White Business Scholarship, c/o Mitchell Community College, 500 W. Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677. The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Statesville Place, Claire Bridge and Maple Leaf Healthcare as well as Dr. Carla Pence and Dr. Sam Stout for their love, care, and compassion of Mabel White.
