Mabel Armonde Troutman

June 10, 1926 — July 30, 2018

Mabel Armonde Welborn Troutman passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at age 92. She was born in Statesville, NC, to Mabel and Clarence Welborn on June 10, 1926.

Armonde will be remembered fondly for her Southern charm, passion for living, positive outlook, and the profound impact she had on the lives of her loved ones. She had countless friends in Statesville and beyond, and diligently maintained those relationships. She even remained close with several of her Statesville kindergarten classmates throughout her life. She never failed to take an active interest in the lives of those around her, often forwarding newspaper articles to friends and family she knew they would enjoy. In recent years, she became very close to her caretakers, and she loved and appreciated their friendship.

A devoted bridge player for many decades, she appreciated both the social and mental rewards of the game. A true lifelong learner, she was always ready for an adventure, travelling far and wide in her lifetime, and generously sharing her experiences with those around her. She also explored the world through her appreciation for the arts: an avid reader, she particularly enjoyed mystery novels, and was a lifelong supporter of the Iredell County Public Library.

Her love of nature was evident in everything she did. She shared her knowledge of wildflowers with friends and family, and loved the peace and natural beauty of her Lake Norman home, where she was delighted by sightings of deer, raccoons, skunks, and rabbits. Her love of animals ran deep; she always had a feline friend nearby, and held a special fondness for our native songbirds, as well.

Armonde was in the first graduating twelfth grade at the "new" Statesville Senior High in 1944, and afterwards married her high school sweetheart Chalmers "Gene" Troutman, Jr. on October 7, 1944. She was a long-standing member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Armonde loved her family, and is survived by children Jane Getsinger (Layton), Elisa Pressly (Ed), and Chalmers "Gene" Troutman, III (Robin); grandchildren Abigail Jennings (Randolph Lewis), Michael Jennings, Carolyn Ryan (Kevin), Erica Kaplan (Nick), Peter Troutman, and Jacqueline Aronson (Ross); step-grandchildren Sean Getsinger and Constance Getsinger; and great-grandchildren Genevieve Lewis, Sophia Lewis, Charlotte Ryan, Pressly Ryan, and Gloria Kaplan; and step-great grandchild Riley Bowen. Also surviving is her sister Peggy Joyce Murdock, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Chalmers "Gene" Troutman Jr., her sister Lysbeth Berini, her brother, Clarence, Jr., and her grandson David Jennings.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of her love for her church, music, and cats, memorials may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church Organ Fund, 801 Henkel Rd, Statesville, NC 28677; or the Lake Norman Lucky Cat Program, 20117 W Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031.
