Lynn Kirkpatrick Springer

Mrs. Lynn Kirkpatrick Springer, 61, of Fairfax, VA, passed away, Monday, May 2, 2016 at home following a short courageous fight with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her death. Mrs. Springer was born April 19, 1955 in Evansville, IN and was the daughter of the late Lt. Col. James Samuel Kirkpatrick and Marcia Mackenzie Kirkpatrick. Her father was an officer in the US Army, allowing the family to reside in a number of different places, including Hawaii and Turkey. She was a 1973 graduate of Denbigh High School in Newport News, VA and graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1977 with a degree in English. On October 24, 1992, she was married at the Wren Chapel in Williamsburg, VA to Jack Henderson Springer Jr of Statesville, NC, who survives of the home. Prior to her marriage Mrs. Springer worked in a number of jobs including teacher, paralegal and production assistant in magazine publication. At the time of her marriage she was the Production Manager for the magazine of the American Society of Industrial Security. Following the birth of her first child she became a full time mom, the hardest job in the world. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, David Hampton Springer; and a daughter, Mackenzie Ann Springer, both of the home; two brothers, Jim Kirkpatrick of Evansville, IN and Don Kirkpatrick of Williamsburg VA; Mother-in-law Wanda D. Springer of Statesville, NC; Sister-in Law Marjorie S. Poole and Husband Donnie D. Poole of Statesville, NC; nephews Donnie D. Poole Jr. of Statesville, NC and Pierce Kirkpatrick of New Orleans, LA. A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC. with Rev. Brad Mullis officiating. The family will visit with friends at Nicholson Funeral Home prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Books on Bikes, c/o Clark Elementary School, 1000 Belmont Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.
