Luther Presley Nicholson

Luther Presley Nicholson, 79, of Statesville, died Friday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Yadkin County on October 21, 1938, he was a son of the late Walter C. Nicholson and Viola Lewis Nicholson. On October 14, 1960, he married the former Enola Deviney who survives.



He was preceded in death by siblings: Lawrence, W.C., Thurman, Troy, Dwight and Mott Nicholson and Swannie Gill.



Mr.; Nicholson was a member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church. He formerly participated in fast pitch softball and was the N.C. MVP in 1966 and 1968. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a retired inspector with the N.C.D.O.T. and was a surveyor. He graduated from Union Grove High School and he served his country in the U. S. Air Force.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Danny Nicholson and his wife, Dana and Doyle Nicholson and his wife, Gretchen, a daughter, Deborah Dowell and husband, Dirk along with two brothers, Hugh and Jessie Nicholson and three sisters, Betty Lou Millsaps, Myrtle Hollar and Lea Elkins. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Devin, Daniel, Daelyn, Cora, Kate and Drew.



Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Monday February 5, 2018 at Grassy Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Chenevey officiating. He will lie in state in the sanctuary where the family will greet friends from 1:00 until 2:45 prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Rites presented by the North Iredell American Legion Post # 113.
