Luther M Souther

November 23, 1932 — March 9, 2015

Mr. Luther M. Souther, 82, of Statesville, died peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at his home. Born in Iredell County on November 23, 1932, he was a son of the late Morris Arthur Souther and Mattie Anderson Souther. He was retired from Suburban Propane and was a member of Front Street Baptist Church. He attended Scotts and Monticello Schools. He will be missed by family and friends. He loved baseball and played the upright bass and guitar. He played music from age 12 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Granite Quarry N.C. Fiddlers Convention. He inspired his children Mike and Keith Souther and other children to play music and he played in many groups including The Sons Of The South, The Union Grove Fiddlers, The Catawba River Boys and filled in for many other bands as needed. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. On December 2, 1981, he married the former Linda Price who survives. Also surviving are sons: Keith Souther (Melissa) and Michael Souther (Sherry), daughters, Cynthia and Julia Souther, and a step son, John Nicholson. Also 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Services celebrating Luther's life will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Connor Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening (Tuesday) at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
