Lucy Wooten Mahaffey

Lucy Irene Wooten Mahaffey, 96, of Statesville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Rosewood Assisted Living in Harmony. 

 Born in Iredell County on August 22, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Martin Wooten and Nettie Belle Johnson Wooten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Elbert" Mahaffey, Sr., a daughter, Judy Irene Mahaffey Redding, and brothers: Bill, Donald, Max, Neil, Gerald and Sammy Wooten.

 She graduated from Harmony High School and served as Choir Director for Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Providence United Methodist Church and was the church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Statesville. She enjoyed yard work, fishing and camping.

 Survivors include a son, Joe Mahaffey, Jr. (Marilyn), grandchildren, Joseph Mahaffey, III., (Tawnya), Nicholas Mahaffey (Ashley), James Connell, II., (Tammy) and Lavonne Helton (Chris). Also surviving are several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Peggy Fisher, Ruth Jackson, Sue Jones and Martha Harwell.

 There will be a celebration of life gathering of friends and family on August 22, 2024, at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
