Lucille Plyler

Mrs. Lucille Matheson Plyler, 82, of Statesville, passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Alexander County, N.C. on September 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ira J. Matheson and Delia Blanche White Matheson. She attended Alexander County Schools and on August 19, 1961, was married to Leonard Davis Plyler who died in 2012. In her earlier days she worked for Beauty Maid Mills, and later started being a mother and homemaker and working on the farm. She enjoyed farming, her cows and chickens, working in the garden, especially with green beans. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, had been a choir member and read her bible every night. She really enjoyed singing. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Matheson. She is survived by three sons and one daughter; Leonard Dean Plyler (Mary), Roger Lee Plyler (Maleia), Lonnie Davis Plyler and special friend, Amanda Shoemaker, and Connie Plyler Cook (James), all of Statesville. Her grandchildren are James Mitchell Cook (Madison), Morgan Cook, Caroline Cook and Elizabeth Cook. She is further survived by one brother, Fred D. Matheson ( Doris Rash) of Stony Point, along with five sisters; Hazel M. Gant of Taylorsville, Phyllis M. Pritchard of Hiddenite, Arletta M. Jenkins of Statesville, Dorothy M. Geerdes (Alvin) of St. Paul, MN., and Margaret Smith (Benny) of Charlotte. Numerous nieces and nephews, including Betty Cooper and Alice Pritchard, who gave of their time and helped to take Mrs. Plyler to appointments and other places, also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Lucille Plyler will be conducted 2:00 PM. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Matt Emory and Dr. Chris Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.
