Loretta Lee Adkins

Mrs. Loretta Lee Brown Adkins of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, on Thursday, October 6, 2016. Born in Troutman on January 29, 1935, she was the only child of Charles Harold Brown and Lucille Morrison Brown. She was a graduate of Troutman High School and Phifer College. She was an active member of New Salem UMC, where she was a former member of the choir for over 40 years. Each summer she and her husband, Robert, would grow a huge garden. She enjoyed canning, traveling and was a great cook. On October 19, 1957 she married Robert Allen Adkins with whom she would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on October 19. She was a loving mother, wife, and well respected member of her church and community. She lived her life for her family and her faith in God. She is survived by her husband, Robert, two sons, Robert Neal Adkins and Michael Allen Adkins of Statesville, one grandson, Aaron Walker of Statesville, two aunts Mary Lee Morrison and Ethel Morrison of Statesville, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 3:00 pm at New Salem UMC with Rev. David Gay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will visit with friends and family from 2:00 - 3:00 in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to New Salem UMC. Online condolences may be made at www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
