Lona "Ma" Teague

August 3, 1910 — March 27, 2013

Nettie Lona Hendren Teague, affectionately known as "Ma Teague", age 102, a resident of Maple Leaf Health Care, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013. She was born August 3, 1910 in Alexander County, the daughter of the late William Baxter Hendren and Laura Minnie Adams Hendren. On March 22, 1927, she married Ralph William Teague, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1969. A faithful member of Yadkin Baptist Church as long as she was able, she loved her church and her family. She was a retired textile worker, aloving and devoted mother and grandmother, who loved her sewing, quilting, working in her yard and garden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Teague Barker, a great grandson, Christopher Matthew Lackey, three brothers, Clay, Glenn and W.B. Hendren, an infant brother and four sisters, Effie H. LeVan, Flora H. Millsaps, Ruth H. Fox and Thelma H. Russell. Survivors include two daughters, Betty T. Lackey and husband, Escar and Naomi T. Stikeleather and husband, Wayne, both of Statesville. Six grandchildren, Dennis Lackey (Sylvia) of Statesville, Rick Lackey (Pam) of Wilson, NC, Donna L. Haithcox (Doug) of Jensen Beach, FL, Kelle S. Love (Scott) of Conover, NC, Tracy S. Moore (Jeff) of Statesville and a special granddaughter, Cheryl B. Ziglar (Keith) of Mt. Holly, NC, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and special friend, Mrs. Hazel Johnson. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Yadkin Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Bunton and Dr. Rev. J.B. Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Hiddenite, NC. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00-11:00 am in the Yadkin Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and at other times at the home of Betty and Escar Lackey, 434 Chestnut Lane, Statesville and Naomi and Wayne Stikeleather, 281 Bell Farm Rd., Statesville. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215. Nicholson Funeral Home is assisting the family of Lona Teague.
