Lois Marie Johnson Young, 80, of Statesville, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC from injuries received from an auto accident on Thursday, November 8, 2012. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 14, 1932 to the late James Herman Johnson and Lydia Glatzel Johnson. Mrs. Young was a graduate of Western High School, Baltimore, Maryland and was married to George Edward Young on June 21, 1954. She was with Baltimore, Maryland Transit Company in the earlier years and in customer service with C & P Telephone Company. She was a faithful member of South River Baptist Church and of the Senior Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Lydia Johnson and a brother, James Herman Johnson, Jr. Along with her husband, of 58 years, she is also survived by two nephews, Kenneth Hechmer (Terri), Robert Buchanon, two nieces, Mary Ellen Campbell, Alice Gondeck and two great nieces, Cindy Lear, Wendy Jessup. She is further survived by her loving and special friends, Pam Miller, Dr. Michael Miller, Bonnie Morrow, Donald Morrow, Benny Wilhelm, Linda Wilhelm, Maxine West, Doug Lambert and Emily Lambert. Lois was an outstanding and loving wife to her husband, loved Jesus and was faithful to her church, was a strong independent lady who loved her Lord and friends. She was a giving person and prayed faithfully for everyone. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Young will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, November 15, 2012 at South River Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the South River Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Benny Wilhelm, Doug Lambert, Marty Waugh, Jerry Koch, Lee McClure and Ken Marsh. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Miller and Donald Morrow. The family will visit with friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral hour. Memorials may be made to South River Baptist Church, 2659 South Chipley Ford Road Statesville, NC 28625.
