Lois Terry Harper

Lois Terry Harper of Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013. She was born April 17, 1921 in Rockingham to the late Winfield Scott Terry and Jessie Saunders Terry. She lived in Rockingham most of her life. Lois recently celebrated her 92nd birthday with family and friends at Statesville Place, her home for the past two years. Lois was preceded in death by her husbands, John Nicholson, William S. Goforth, Sr. and James Harper and siblings Evelyn Davis, Mildred Easterling, Clyde Terry, Cecil Terry, Winfield Terry, Allie Jenkins and Eugenia Jernigan. She is survived by five children: Teddie Nicholson of Chapel Hill; Tina Weinberg and spouse Sam Ryburn of Charlotte; Terry Andrews of Statesville; William S. Goforth, Jr. and spouse Michaelle B, Goforth of Madison AL, and Bryan Goforth of Raleigh; grandchildren Charis Wilson, Tamara Downey, Chris Weinberg, Daniel Goforth and Matthew Goforth; great grandchildren Ciaran Downey, Brynna Downey, Cooper Weinberg and Hudson Weinberg. She is also survived by many special nieces. Lois lived life fully. She retired after twenty-seven years as an associate with the J.C. Penney Company. She enjoyed time spent with friends in Rockingham and at Statesville Place, visiting her children, line dancing, and volunteering at the hospital, various nursing homes, the soup kitchen, and voting polls. She especially loved her cat and constant companion Smokey Joe. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Richmond County Memorial Park. A service celebrating her life will be held at Statesville Place at a later date.
