Lois Taylor

January 11, 1940 — July 21, 2014

Ms. Lois Jeanne Taylor, 74, of Statesville, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness. Ms. Taylor was born in Essex County, N.J. on January 11, 1940, and was the daughter of the late William Watkins Taylor and Eliza Jane Cox Taylor. She was a member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church and she served as an Elder as well as a Sunday School Teacher. Ms. Taylor also volunteered her time in several areas which include Fifth Street Ministries, and Davis Regional Medical Center as a fund raiser coordinator and leader of the cancer share group. Ms. Taylor was retired from Aventis Pharmaceuticals where she worked as an events planner. She worked for 35 years as a legal secretary for an Appellate Judge, and was the National President of the Legal Secretary Association. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. She is survived by two nieces, Alison S. Mays (David) of Elkhart, TX, and Valerie S. Heitchew (Bill) of New Market, VA, along with three nephews, George Steidel of Austin, TX, Doug Taylor (Sonia) of Peach Tree, GA, and Bill Taylor of Dalton, PA. A host of great nieces and nephews also survive. Lois loved to travel with her sister, Lila Steidel, to all parts of the country, from the cranberry bogs in Michigan to the redwoods of California to the glaciers in Alaska to the Texas Alamo to the peach trees of Georgia to the battlefields of Virginia. One of her most favorite places on earth was Stearn's Lake in Pennsylvania, where she spent 70 summers. Funeral services for Ms. Taylor will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Forest Park Presbyterian with Rev. Scott Jeffreys officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
