Lillian Parker

Lillian Mildred Speaks Parker, 87, of Ridgeway, VA and formerly of the Harmony and Union Grove area, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Parker was born February 3, 1926 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Alvin Speaks and Georganna Mahaffey Speaks. She attended Iredell County schools and was a member of Grassy Knob Baptist Church. She lived with her daughter, Barbara Tuggle in Ridgeway, VA until her death. Mrs. Parker worked as a caregiver with the Rosewood Nursing Home in Harmony. Mrs. Parker was a very loving mother and grandmother who cared for all her children and would do all she could for them whenever they needed her. A very independent person, Lillian cared for herself until recently when her health rapidly declined. Until her death, Lillian was the oldest in five generations. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parker was also preceded in death by one brother, Ed Speaks, three sisters, Faralee Gregory, Treva Speaks Fowler and Eloise Campbell along with a grandson, Kyle Wayne Martin, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Alvin Myers (Sylvia) of Troutman and J.C. Myers (Debbie) of Statesville, one daughter, Barbara Myers Tuggle of Ridgeway, VA and one brother, Coy Speaks of Union Grove along with six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is further survived by a special friend, Hassell O'Dell and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Parker will be conducted 2:30 pm Saturday, June 22, 2013 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Byrd officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne and Brandon Wheeler, J.C. Myers, Jr, Mike Myers, Charles Collins, J.T. Bowers and James Bowers.
