Lil Conley

Mary Lillian Jonas Conley, 89, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, February 03, 2013 at Rosewood Assisted Living. She was born July 30, 1923 in Lincolnton, NC and was the daughter of the late Harvey A. Jonas and Maude Crowell Jonas. Mrs. Conley was a graduate of the class of 1940 of Lincolnton High School and Greensboro College. She also did graduate work at the Oberlin Conservatory. On July 30, 1949 she married William Tate Conley, who also preceded her in death on May 15, 1978. She was employed with the Marion City Schools and retired from the Statesville City Schools as a music teacher. She was a life-long Methodist and was member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she had served as a Circle Chairman and was the choir director. She was a member of the Christian Woman's Club in Marion, NC and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by, two sons, William T. Conley Jr. (Carey), of Statesville, and David T. Conley (Stephanie), of Raleigh, five grandchildren, Robin Conley Smith (Doug), Jinny Conley, Steve Conley, Alex Conley and Becky Conley; and one great grandson Soloman Conley. Also surviving are her two brothers, Harvey Jonas (Celeste) and Ralph Jonas, one sister, Martha Sadri (Fred) along with many wonderful nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Nancy Owensby and the staff at Rosewood Assisted Living for the wonderful care they provided. A service to celebrate Lil's life will be conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Miller officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. A private family burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery.
