Mrs. Eunice Elizabeth "Lib" Walker Steele, 97, of Cleveland, NC, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Steele was born in Rutherfordton County, NC on June 9, 1917, and was the daughter of the late Addie Grey Walker and Dora Burgess Walker. She attended Rutherfordton County schools and on June 29, 1940, she married Hubert Earl Steele, who preceded her in death on September 14, 2001. Mrs. Steele was an active and faithful member of South River United Methodist Church and a member of the choir. She was a homemaker but helped in the family business, J.H. Steele & Son General Merchandise. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sue Steele, son-in-law, Bill Mann along with 10 brothers and sisters She is survived by her children, Don Steele (Shirley) of Cleveland, Wanda Steele Mann of Due West, SC, Jan Steele of the home, David Steele (Wendy) and Sherry Steele Koontz (Jake), both of Cleveland. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services for Lib Steele will be conducted 2:30 PM Saturday, November 29, 2014, at South River UMC with Rev. Randy Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:30 pm at the church. Memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to South River UMC, 2880 South River Church Road, Woodleaf, NC 27054.
