Leona Sozio

Mrs. Leona Harloff Sozio, 90, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness. Mrs. Sozio was born April 10, 1922 in Mendon, NY and she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude Schultz Harloff. She graduated from Monroe County Schools in New York and she married Sam Sozio, who preceded her in death on September 7, 2011. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Sozio was employed with the Pittsford School System where she worked as a bus driver and she was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Statesville. In addition to her parents and husband, Sam, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Erna Nichols. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Raymond of Victor, NY along with three sons, David Nichols (Deborah) of Mooresville, Daryl Nichols (Laurie) of Statesville and John Nichols of Marion, OH. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her special church family at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Leona Sozio will be conducted 10:00 am Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Dovenmuehle officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 465 Hartness Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
