Larry Wayne Bowman

April 2, 1943 — April 11, 2019

Larry Wayne Bowman, Sr., 76, of Carolina Beach, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 11, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 2, 1943, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late George Washington Bowman and Helen Pratt Bowman.

Larry loved all his family more than anything. He gave them all a firm foundation in the Word of God. He was a hard worker with great integrity from his youth. He was involved in finance, furniture, real estate and the restaurant business. Larry loved to be involved in the community and church. He was a member of the Jaycees, Gideons and Masons. He had a heart for church and its operations.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Hope Bowman and two grandchildren, Jonathan Russell Smyre and Peyton Ashleigh Rawlings. He was also preceded in death by Barbara Stokes , his first wife and the mother of his four children, his second wife Ann Bowman. He was also proceeded in death by his brothers Jerry and Eddie Bowman.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Reynolds-Bowman; children, Sherry Bowman Miles (Jody), Larry Wayne Bowman, Jr. (Teresa) and Kristy Smyre (Jody); grandchildren, Michael and Brandon Ward, Ashley Fulbright Smith (Anthony), Heather Fulbright Virtue (Trevor), Warren and Matthew Bowman, Dillon Patterson (Suzanne), Kaitlyn Johnson (Tristan), Andi Johnson(Chris), Jenna Johnson, Rebekah, Zachary, Nathan Smyre, Devin and Destiny Bowman; great-granddaughter, Samantha Smith; stepchildren, Wendy Royal (Chris), Stuart Reynolds (Amy), Jaime Preuss (Brian), Angel Martinez (Joshua) and Chris James (Rain) and step-grandchildren, Julia Royal, Worth and Lila Reynolds, Joshua, Zachary and Nicholas Preuss, McKennah Rawlings, Devan Martinez and Jackson James. He is survived by another brother Steve Bowman.



A funeral service will be held at 4pm, Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC with the Rev. Joshua Reilly and Rev. Clayton Rivenbark officiating.

The family will receive visitors one-hour prior beginning at 3pm.

Larry made many friends during his lifetime. He loved to travel and he was always visiting the sick. He loved his animals and was always feeding the birds and strays. He loved his cabin home in Sparta, NC. Larry was a true Christian and was an example to everyone he met.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church, 504 Whtes Mill Rd., Statesville, NC 28677 with Pastor Chris Haizlip officiating. Previous Events
