Kathleen Goforth Guy

June 19, 1921 — April 7, 2018

Kathleen Goforth Guy, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at age 96. The daughter of Samuel Flake and Emily Leah Jurney Goforth, Kathleen was born in Iredell and was raised in the Union Grove community in 1921. She graduated from Union Grove High School and Mitchell College, with a degree in business, and married her sweetheart, Alfred Martin (Monk) Guy, in 1941.

Kathleen thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in her career. A long-time member of the Statesville Business and Professional Women's Club, Kathleen held positions as the club's president, vice president, parliamentarian, secretary, and board member. In addition, she served as a charter member and treasurer of the Statesville Kiwanianne Club; a member and treasurer of the Turf and Garden Club; a volunteer with Iredell Memorial Hospital Pink Ladies and Davis Community Hospital; and chairman of the Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship committee for high school students interested in medical careers.

When not working, Kathleen spent time gardening, reading, sewing, searching for shells on the beach, and enjoying her family. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Guy Gaines; her grandchildren, Amanda Gaines Moore (David), Emily Gaines Buchler (Norbou), and Leah Gaines Messick (Michael); her great-grandchildren, Kathleen Carter Moore, Eloise Gaines Buchler, Beatrice Gaines Buchler, Edmund Louis Messick, and Adalyn Grace Messick; and her nieces and nephews, Sue Hedrick (Larry), Deborah Traylor (Steve), Jean Snyder (Steve), Gail Ray (Mike), Lynn Goforth (Susan), Thad Goforth (Emily), Susan Foster, Barry Guy (Lori), Tommy Guy (Judith), Archie Guy (Emily), Fran Guy Strauss, Guy Tilley, Doug Tilley, Alma Tilley Scott, and Ronnie McLain.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Flake and Emily Leah Jurney Goforth; her siblings, Dwight Goforth (Ethel), Faye Goforth Henderson (Will), and Ralph Goforth (Lois); her husband, Alfred Martin (Monk) Guy; and her son-in-law, Edmund Louis (Eddie) Gaines.
