Julius Ralph Templeton of 1332 Royalty Circle, Statesville, passed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in the Veterans Nursing Home in Salisbury, NC. He was born in Union Grove, NC the son of the late Calloway and Fannie Ireland Templeton. Ralph served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. He served in Korea with the 40 Infantry Division in a combat role. He received a commendation award as well as two Bronze Stars. He graduated from Union Grove High School and Kings College in Charlotte. He was employed by Florida Steel Company for 33 years before retiring in 1994. He served as manager of the Raleigh Division. He was married to his faithful wife, Phyllis (Gerrie) Lackey. Ralph was a charter member of Cary Page Rotary Club. After moving to Statesville, he was affiliated with the Statesville Rotary Club for a short time. Ralph was a faithful Christian having served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendant and Teacher at Calvary Church in Charlotte as well as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Statesville Road Baptist Church in Charlotte. He was a volunteer at Iredell Memorial Hospital until his health failed. He was a President of the Home Owners Association in Statesville as well as in Fuquay Varina, NC. Ralph and Gerrie had two daughters, Jill of Charlotte and Sherrie (deceased) of Durham. The loss of Sherri was the result of a house fire. Ralph and Gerrie had no grandchildren, but loved every one they met. In addition to his parents and daughter, Ralph was one of eight children all of whom are deceased. Four brothers, Stokes, Gray, Cal and Joel Templeton and three sisters, Mozelle Sloan, Merle Messick and Fern Ehninger The funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Union Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Ed Yarbrough and Rev. John Weinbach officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at the church. Those serving as pallbearers will be Geo Wallin, Steve Messick and Michael Sloan. Memorials may be made to the Union Grove Cemetery Fund or to The Alzheimer's Association. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Templeton.
