Jr George Maine

George Carlyle Maine, Jr., 73, of Statesville, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Oneonta, NY on March 10, 1941 to the late George C. Maine, Sr. and Alice Cope Maine. George attended Oneonta High School and enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. He served his country honorably in France for 3 years during the Belgium-Congo Conflict. He had his own auto shop and loved working on cars. George retired from Griffin Heating and Air where he was a sheet metal mechanic. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Allen Maine; a brother, Emmett Maine; and a sister, Eleanor Harbaugh. Mr. Maine is survived by a daughter, Cythia M. Hackler of Statesville; a son, Michael Maine (Paula) of Statesville; nine grandchildren, Brittany H. Higgins (Rob), Christin F. Hackler, Cody P. Hackler, Justin C. Maine (Trisha), Stephen M. Maine, Thomas Carson, Ricky Massey, Christopher Richardson, and Jessica Richardson; and one great grandchild, Emma Hedrick. He is further survived by four sisters, Ida Vasburgh, Ruth Wilson, Linda Kent, and Anna Kinsey; and seven brothers, Arthur, Fred, Paul, John, Bill, David, and Duane Maine. Funeral services for George Maine will be held 2:00PM, Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
