Mr. Grady Duran "G.D." White, Jr., 88, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following a three year battle with cancer. Mr. White was born in Iredell County on April 18, 1926, and was the son of the late Grady Duran White, Sr. and Mary Jane Holland White. He was a graduate of Union Grove High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean Conflict. On July 31, 1948, he married Jane Branon White who survives. Mr. White was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a dairy farmer and he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 25 years of service. During his retirement, he also worked for Lowry Livestock & Feed in Harmony. As a man who loved to be outside, G.D. enjoyed gardening and yard work. He loved telling jokes and sharing laughs with friends. He lived each day with courage, perseverance and determination. He was a man with great faith and devotion to God and his family. He will be remembered for his integrity, humility, generosity, and humor. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie White Holland and husband Cue Holland. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Jane, he is survived by one son, Dr. Andy White and wife Jennifer, a granddaughter, Meredith W. Collins and husband Andrew, and great granddaughter, Paisley Collins and great grandson, William Collins, due February 2, 2015, all of Statesville. A celebration of life honoring G.D.'s life will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Dancy and Rev. David Childress officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. White will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service and pallbearers will be the Deacons at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 148, Statesville, NC 28687.
