Joyce Louise Funderburk

Joyce Louise Miller Funderburk, 83, of Statesville, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.



Mrs. Funderburk was born in Iredell County on June 17, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Ross Miller and Louise Crouch Miller. She was a graduate of Iredell County schools and received her CNA from Mitchell Community College. She was first married to the late Jack Phifer and then Benny Funderburk who also preceded her in death.



Mrs. Funderburk worked as a nursing assistant at Iredell Memorial Hospital for over 30 years.



In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Miller.



Mrs. Funderburk is survived by her daughter, Catherine Akardi along with two sons, Benny Phifer and Chris Phifer and one grandson, Matt Keever (Mary), all of Statesville. She is also survived by three sisters, Frances Duncan, Andrea Dees, and Barbara Lofton, along with one brother, Ronald Miller (Beverly Elaine). A host of nieces and nephews also survive.



Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2019 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. J.B. Parker, Jr., officiating with a private burial on Monday. The family will have an informal visitation following the funeral service.
