Joyce Elaine Dobson

Joyce Elaine Dobson, 86, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Autumn Care of Statesville. Joyce was born October 20, 1930 in Statesville and was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Phoebe Thomas Dobson. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a 1949 graduate of Cool Spring High School. She was retired from N.C. Department of Corrections. She worked 43 years State Service (3 years Clerk of Court's Office; 10 years Iredell County Public Health Dept. and 30 years Dept. of Corrections). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Harold Dobson and two sisters, Carolyn Dobson Bunker and Lucille Dobson Holton. She is survived by nephews, Luther L. Holton, Jr., John S. Holton, Thomas W. Holton, Jeffrey L. Holton, Joe H. Dobson, John W. Dobson and Harold Keith Dobson; great nieces, Sherry D. Phillips and Lindsay Kate Holton; great nephew, Matthew B. Holton, and great great nieces, Alexandria Elaine Phillips and Lillian Caroline Phillips. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday morning 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
