Josie Mae Harris

Josie Mae Harris, born on January 16, 1943, ascended into the arms of her Creator on February 20, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She leaves behind a vibrant legacy that will not soon fade. A woman of many talents, Josie was not only a dedicated Medical Assistant but also a bright and creative Cosmetologist. Her career was a testament to her passion for taking care of others and making them feel beautiful.

Known for her jazzy talking and her unapologetic spirit, Josie was the epitome of a “tell it like it is” granny. With a feisty personality and a regal way of carrying herself, she illuminated every room she entered. Always put together, she was known for her impeccable style, with manicured nails and perfectly styled hair, complemented by a cigarette between her fingers. A true diva, known for her lively charm.

Her passions extended beyond her professions; her heart was most at home in the loving company of her family. Josie cherished her time spent with her children and grandbabies, turning even the simplest gatherings into celebrations of love and laughter. She was a beloved Bingo Boss, often found at the Bingo Hall. She enjoyed fishing trips, dancing, and soul-stirring R&B music filled her days, as did cooking— a skill she generously shared with anyone who wandered into her kitchen.

Josie Mae Harris was undoubtedly proud of her title as "Mama Josie" to all who crossed her path. Her warmth and kindness enveloped everyone, offering solace and support, ensuring no one felt alone. She was a guiding light to her children and their spouses: Edith McCurry and spouse Richard II, Eddie Harris Jr, and spouse Shelly, Sherlene Hall, Wanda Micks and spouse Moralis, Laurie Johnson and spouse Kyle, and Michelle Bellfield, who recently lost her spouse, Tommy. 

Josie leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Richard III, Marquita, Richenza, Aremis, Helen, Porsche, Deborah, Devin, Danielle, Sierra, Zachary, Tommy Jr., and Tiffany, as well as her 14 great-grandchildren, who were the delight of her heart. 

Her siblings were a vital part of her life as well: brothers William Barnes and Emerson Haynes, sisters Bereatha Smith and Linder Gardner stood alongside her, their bonds unbroken even in this time of loss. Josie was preceded in death by her brothers Henry Jr., Marion (affectionately known as Uncle Bill), and Larry, along with her sisters LenRose and Barbara Jean.

The void Josie leaves behind is profound; her laughter, vivacity, and fierce spirit will forever echo in the hearts of her family and friends. As we mourn the passing of this legendary woman, we also celebrate the joy and love she brought into our lives. Mama Josie will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life Service for Josie Harris is Friday, March 14, 2025, from 5:30pm until 7:30pm at the Grand Stay Hotel Conference Center, 7083 153rd St. W, Apple Valley, MN 55124.
