Johnny Franklin Cloer

Johnny Franklin Cloer, 82, of Statesville, passed away, Monday, November 21, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cloer was born July 3, 1934 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Ernest Fred Cloer and Pauline Messick Cloer. He attended Scotts School and graduated from Statesville Senior High School and served in the National Guard. On December 25, 1956, he married the late Mary Love Reavis Cloer, who passed away March 30, 2013. He was the store manager at the A&P Grocery on Davie Ave. for many years, worked at Hodges Exxon Service Station and retired from Statesville Concrete. He was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church. He loved and enjoyed cooking for his family and also fishing, gardening and his church family. Mr. Cloer is survived by one son, John Franklin Cloer, II (Kim) of Statesville; one daughter, Andrea Cloer Massey (Bruce) of Statesville; six grandchildren, Jason Cloer (Kim), Brian Cloer, Candie Cloer, Matthew Cloer, Amanda Harris, Kelley Reed (Chris) and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Ashley Cloer. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Matthew Cloer, Jason Cloer, Tripp Johnson, Terry Mattingly, Jerry Massey and Gene Houpe.
